Albeit the number of talented artists, there are exceptional few who have revolutionized the arts into remarkable movements. It takes an extraordinary amount of talent and a deep submersion to the artistic field to become famous painting artists. Here are four of them who have etched their names, not only in the canvasses and other mediums they have used, but in the art history as well.

Vincent van Gough has become the household name for expensive art collections and pieces that a lot of murals, books, movie adaptations, museums and even songs are dedicated to this post-Impressionist painter. He has become a very famous artist and one of the pioneers of the artistic movement called the Expressionism, and the continuance of his works can be partly attributed to his brother Theo, who has supported him financially as well. Among his famous works include the “The Starry Night,” “Sunflowers,” and “The Potato Eater.” His great works came to a halt when he committed suicide due to a mental illness but his worldwide recognition does not end in his death.

Another of the famous painting artists is Leonardo da Vinci, the artist behind what could probably be the most replicated and most controversial painting, the “Mona Lisa.” Not only is da Vinci a painter, but he is also a mathematician, inventor, writer and anatomist, among other things. Aside from the “Mona Lisa,” this forerunner of the Renaissance period has created “The Last Supper,” “Virgin of the Rocks” and the anatomically impressive “The Vitruvian Man.” His artistic genius allegedly caused his master during his apprenticeship, Verrochio, to swear never to paint again. 

Claude Monet, one of the famous painting artists, started the French Impressionism in art. The period itself owed coinage to his widely acclaimed painting “Impression, Sunrise.” His works involve a lot of imagery and people under different lightings, and the usage of a wide variety of colors, which were initially criticized since they broke the traditional themes of art. Aside from the “Impression, Sunrise” Monet has also been widely known for other famous paintings such as “La Promenade,” “Water Lilies,” “Haystacks,” and the Rouen Cathedral series.

Symbolism in works created by Gustav Klimt has made him into one of the famous painting artists. This Austrian painter has concentrated on drawing human, particularly women, and showed fond love of them in tradition-breaking images that have led some to consider as bordering on pornographic due to the erotic themes. However, his most famous painting entitled “The Kiss,” has gained recognition due to the varying psychological meanings that each painted aspect portrays, from the use of dark to light colors, from the difference of the shapes that cloaked each figure to the bent and angle with which they have posed.

There are a lot more famous painting artists that, through their extraordinary works inspired and led the arts into evolution. Aside from talent, they have gained their reputation by using art as the extension of their emotions and thoughts as a new inspiration from various subjects and themes comes along.
